Sh-tstorm Privacy Policy

Sh-tstorm (“we”, “our”, “us”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Sh-tstorm mobile app and website (together, the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information (Optional)

  • Name/Username — entered by you to personalise weather forecasts and push notifications.

Location data —

  • Approximate (city-level) location if you grant ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION.
  • More precise GPS-level location if you grant ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, use the “pin” button, approve browser/device location prompts, or enable current location app features.
  • Background location on Android if you grant “Allow all the time”. We use this to send government-issued severe weather warnings, nowcast alerts, and current location weather updates even when the app is closed or not in use, and to keep current location widgets up to date.
  • If permissions are denied, we use IP-based geolocation (approximate only). The app continues to work without background location.

Device Information

  • Push notification tokens (device identifiers) for sending you updates.
  • App preferences (temperature units, spelling choices).

Purchase and Subscription Information

  • If you buy or start a trial for Shitstorm Pro, Apple, Google, and RevenueCat process purchase and subscription records such as product identifiers, transaction identifiers, entitlement status, renewal status, expiry dates, and store account metadata needed to validate your subscription.
  • We do not receive your full payment card details. App Store and Google Play payments are handled by Apple and Google.

Analytics and Crash Reports

  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — used only on the web app after your explicit cookie consent, with IP anonymisation enabled. Native iOS and Android apps do not use cookie-based GA4 analytics.
  • Sentry — collects anonymous crash reports to identify and fix technical issues.

No Tracking or Advertising

We do not sell your personal data, use your location for ads, use advertising identifiers such as IDFA, run ad networks, share data with data brokers, or combine Shitstorm data with data from other companies’ apps or websites for targeted advertising or advertising measurement. Because the native iOS app does not track users, it does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide personalised weather forecasts and notifications.
  • Validate purchases, restore subscriptions, and provide Shitstorm Pro features.
  • Improve the Service’s performance, stability, and usability.
  • Communicate important updates.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

We only share limited information with:

  • Weather, warning, geocoding, and infrastructure providers needed to look up forecasts, alerts, and place names.
  • Apple, Google, and RevenueCat for subscription purchase processing, entitlement validation, renewals, refunds, and customer support.
  • Service providers such as Google for web analytics after cookie consent, and Sentry for error reporting.
  • Law enforcement or authorities if required by law.

4. Data Retention

  • Optional personal data (name and saved/current location settings) is stored until you delete the app, clear app storage, disable the relevant feature, or request deletion.
  • Subscription and entitlement records are retained for as long as needed to provide paid access, restore purchases, support refunds or billing issues, and meet legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention obligations.
  • Crash logs and analytics data are retained for as long as necessary for troubleshooting and service improvement.

5. Data Security

  • All data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS.
  • We apply data minimisation and request only the permissions needed for core features.

6. Your Privacy Choices

  • Permissions: You can deny or revoke permissions at any time via your device settings.
  • Analytics: Web analytics only run if you grant cookie consent. You can withdraw consent via web cookie preferences. Native apps do not use cookie-based analytics.
  • Notifications: You can disable notifications in device settings.
  • Subscriptions: You can manage, cancel, or restore subscriptions through your App Store or Google Play account settings, and through the app where supported.
  • Data deletion: You can delete all stored data by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
